Fortunately, for those of us who have neither of these qualities at our disposal, there is a relatively simple solution that can give our living rooms the renovation needed. Cast stone mantels perfectly merge the look and feel of traditional solid stone while remaining relatively lightweight and easy to install.

Because of the process which is used to create these mantels they remain manageable to install, allowing for a homeowner or handyman to complete the installation.  With a few common household tools a cast stone mantel can easily be installed in a single afternoon. Cast stone provides the perfect balance between strength, durability and easy installation. They are fire resistant and durable enough to hold up any conceivable mantle decoration yet they are easily installed and provide the texture and organic look of stone.

A Beautiful Stone Fireplace Installation

In addition, cast stone mantels also come in a variety of styles, ensuring that they can be used in a large variety of homes and settings. Models such as the Chelsea offer a more subtle style while more ornate models such as the Venetian can add  to the formal nature of almost any living space.

Regardless of the style you choose, there is no denying that a cast stone mantel is the perfect option for anyone looking to complete a stone fireplace renovation.

Fireplace accessories are key to any stylish living room

February 14th, 2012 by Emily
Fireplace accessories are often one of the most overlooked aspects of living room remodels. After the mantel is installed and your new electric fireplace is glowing brightly, many people neglect to add those final touches of ambiance which make fireplaces such a welcoming aspect of every formal space. The fact of the matter is, almost no fireplace setting is complete without the accessories that make the space not only usable but also more complete.
For many people, one of the biggest concerns when buying an electric fireplace is the realistic nature of the flame. Although electric fireplaces have come a long way in the last decade, many consumers still muddle over the flame displays and worry that their guest will recognize the unit is not an actual fire. In fact, current flame displays are so realistic that this concern is largely baseless. If this fact does not calm their fears however, consumers can ensure a more convincing fireplace setting if they surround their electric unit with the accessories necessary for maintaining a traditional wood fire. Items such as fireplace grates and fireplace screens can add to the ambiance of a traditional living room by conveying the formal nature of fireplaces.
Fireplace screens have been in use for many years and their traditional purpose was to shield individuals from the excessive heat and burning embers that were often emitted from log fires. Even though concern over these issues is unnecessary for consumers who own electric fireplaces, fireplace screens are still symbolic of a working fireplace. Because of this, they still serve as an essential element when conveying the formal setting of a traditional fireplace. Whether a consumer is considering a single panel wrought iron screen or a four fold brass and black fireplace screen one fact is for certain, the addition of a fireplace screen will make any fireplace setting more welcoming.
Another common fireplace accessory that often goes overlooked is the fireplace grate. Fireplace grates were traditionally designed to help organize fire wood so that it would burn in a functional manner. In recent years however; fireplace grates have also become stylistic accessories which help to bring a romantic ambiance to fireplace settings even if the space no longer functions as a traditional wood burning fireplace. For examples, often people will decorate an empty fireplace with a iron grate and then fill the grate with a series of candles.
Regardless of the fireplace accessories you chose it cannot be denied that items such as fireplace grates and fireplace screens are necessary if you wish to make your fireplace a center point of your home.

The world of electric fireplaces is growing and with more and more individuals choosing the convenience and style of electric fireplace inserts these products can often be confusing for customers new to the electric fireplace market. Many customers who are looking for an electric alternative to fit within an existing fireplace consider purchasing electric fireplace log inserts. These inserts are freestanding log sets that are designed to be placed into an existing fireplace. They come in a variety of sizes ranging from 20″ to 24″ wide and 11.75″ to 21.75″ high, depending on the unit.  These units are designed to heat a modest space of 400 sq. ft. and they usually produce between 4600 and 4700 BTUs. For customers who have a two sided fireplace, that is a fireplace facing two rooms, it is often suggested that they consider buying two fireplace inserts and place them back to back. This approach often creates the illusion of a single electric fireplace insert even though there are actually two units lined up against each other.
